Aim of the Course

Upon completion of the course the student should have the knowledge and experience that enables her/him to understand, describe and deal with the chemistry of the biologically active natural products of plant or animal origin including alkaloids, glycosides and tannins as well as the techniques for their identification and isolation from their respective sources.

  • Alkaloids of the pyridine and tropane groups
  • Alkaloids of the quinoline and isoquinoline
  • Alkaloids of the indole group
  • Alkaloids of the carboline, imidazole, purine
  • Glycosides (Introduction)
  • Simple phenolic and anthracene glycosides
  • Flavonoid glycosides
  • Flavonoid and coumarin glycosides
  • Cardiac and saponin glycosides
  • Cyanogenic glycosides and glucosinolates
